Orochelidon: Griego, oros -montaña; khelidon -golondrina.
andecola: Andes; Latín, cola -habitante (colere -habitar).

Identificación

Dorso negro azulado con reflejos verdes. Rabadilla canela. Pecho superior gris. Vientre blanquecino.

- Tamaño: 15 cms.

- Peso: s/d

- Alimentación: insectívora.

- Hábitat: áreas rocosas en quebradas, y arroyos rodeados de arbustales y pastizales, entre los 3100 y 4500 msnm.

- Reproducción: anida en grietas en acantilados y taludes, o bajo aleros de edificios. Cuando anidan en grietas naturales, pueden excavar o agrandar el agujero por sí mismas, rompiendo la superficie con sus pico y raspando o empujando la tierra lejos con los pies. Los huevos son de color blanco con manchas marrones.
