Etimología

Mitu: nombre Tupí, Mitú, Mutú or Mutúm -ave negra, para los pavas.

tuberosum: Latín, tuberosus -lleno de bultos, tumores o inflamaciones (tuber, tuberis -inflamación; derivado de tumere -hincharse).

Estado de conservación


Identificación

Plumaje negro azulado, brillante; lados, vientre y punta de la cola blancas. El pico es rojo vivo, comprimido y muy arqueado. Las patas son anaranjadas.

- Tamaño: 83 a 89 cms.

- Peso: 3800 grs.

- Alimentación: omnívoro.

- Hábitat: bosque perennes de tierras bajas, también en bosques de galería, bosques de transición (inundados estacionalmente), alrededor de los márgenes de lagos, y en los márgenes de cursos de agua.

- Reproducción: s/d.
