Eudyptes: Griego, eu -buen; dutes -buceador.

chrysolophus: Griego, khrusolophos -con cresta dorada.

Identificación

Cabeza, garganta y cuello, y dorso negros. Penacho anaranjado en la frente. Ventral blanco. Alas gris azuladas con borde posterior blanco. Pico rojo. Patas rosadas.

Otros datos
- Tamaño: 70 cms.

- Peso: 5000 grs. aprox.

- Alimentación: calamares, krill y otros crustáceos, a los que bucean hasta profundidades de 80 m, aunque permanecen cerca de la superficie cuando se alimentan por la noche.

- Hábitat: pelágico, solo va a la costa a reproducirse.

- Reproducción: s/d
